Island Home Monument was founded in 1951 by C.B. Mulkey Sr. Then located on Sevier Avenue near the South Knoxville riverfront, the company began with the skilled craftsmanship of hand-carved memorials and hand-cut epitaph. Mulkey passed his trade secrets down to his son, Charles “Buddy” Mulkey Jr, who took over the business after fulfilling his service with the United States Navy. But the quality craftsmanship hasn’t stopped there; Buddy has since then taught his son, Christopher Mulkey, the skills of the trade.
